Gm Expands Zeta Architecture

According to Inside Line, General Motors Corporation has now elaborated its Zeta architecture on some of its branded cars. This time, it will include a wide array of new products for Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and Pontiac.

The Pontiac G8 sedan is the maiden among the new Zeta models. It is patterned on the Australian Holden Commodore SS-V; and will be present in the showrooms of Pontiac early next year. It could be followed shortly by a new Buick Park Avenue sedan in the next spring season. The Buick car is based on the Holden Statesman and was just introduced in China.

Meanwhile, all two rear-drive four-door vehicles are only slightly revised versions of Australian products. A unique metal will be seen in the next line up of Zeta models for the States. And the 2009 Chevrolet Camaro is included among these models. The Camaro vehicle goes into its production line in the later months of 2008. The US dealers are anticipating this vehicle on their stores in the first few months of 2009. The alteration for the Pontiac GTO will follow in fall season of 2009. It will be continuously built in Australia.

In the middle of 2010, Chevrolet will release its new rear-wheel-drive Impala. It is based on the Zeta platform and engineered in North America. Built primarily for whisk customers and repacked as the Impala Classic, the older front-drive sedan may be carried over for a year.

At about the same time, the 2011 Impala Classic will be joined by restyled editions of the G8 and Park Avenue, which will join their Chevrolet counterpart on the same assembly plant, most probably at GM's Oshawa plant in Ontario. The older Lucerne may be pushed by the 2011 Park Avenue from Buick's lineup as the brand's leading sedan.

For model year 2011, the front drive DTS was planned by Cadillac to shift to a Zeta platform. Suppliers said that a future CTS will be converted to Zeta, in 2013. This will be done as Cadillac phases out its current Sigma cars that are rear-drive.

With these expansions, it can be deduced further that General Motor's aim for rear-wheel drive cars appears to be wide-ranging after the year 2010.
