Bradley Associates: Selling European Banks Into Strength

"Bradley Associates" is rumored to be disposing of remaining holdings in several European banks including those of Lloyd's Banking Group and Royal Bank of Scotland following further turbulence in the international debt markets.

Credit default swaps which offer investors protection against default by sovereign states have been increasing in price as the Greek debt crisis shows strong signs of spreading to fellow PIIGS nations, Portugal, Spain, Ireland and Italy.

"Bradley Associates" traders have been instructed to sell stocks in several large financial institutions as the firm is mindful that their exposure to the sovereign debt of these countries renders them vulnerable to huge write-downs on top of those they made during the initial credit crunch which began in 2007.

Banks and other financial organizations have written down over $1 trillion to date and the firm believes that further losses could see banks stop lending to businesses and individuals and potentially stalling the fragile economic recovery underway in the rest of Europe.

A "Bradley Associates" spokeswoman said that their concerns are exacerbated by the fact that the European Central Bank has more political and legal constraints than its counterparts in the US and other developed nations which prevent it from simply embarking on a program of quantitative easing.
